Stop and Cross

Original Oil Painting by James Earley
created 2017
SOLD

“Stop and Cross” is a painting of a homeless man that I met in Limoux in the south of France in 2017. I wanted to show the man and his best friend, his dog with the same expression, an emotion of despair and fear yet a feeling that together they are strong and they have not given up, there is still hope. I added a reference to the disciple Matthew who described in the Bible his views on homelessness, the chapter and verse reference can be seen embroidered in the coat of the homeless man. I also added a crucifix which can be seen on the mat where the dog is sat.
