As part of my series of paintings of the homeless I have started a portrait of a man that I met in Toulouse in the south of France. I was particularly struct by the sadness of this man and I hope to show emotion in the work. As always I start with a red back ground, I then paint a rough image which normally will take me a couple of hours with fast and thick brush strokes. The aim being to cover the canvas and master the lighting of the painting.
