I visited Sadarghat Port whilst I was in Dhaka Bangladesh in 2022. The colours, noise and smell were overwhelming and it is certainly a place that I will never forget. Passengers were being taken from one side of Dhaka to another by taxi boats as they navigated through the river vegetation and debris which included lots of plastics. Other small boats were collecting plastic bottles that were in the water. Pink plastic bags were dotted along the waters edge and I was struck by the beauty of the seascape whilst at the same time seeing the mass of plastic that was floating in the water. I wanted to create a painting of a seascape in the style of realism that shows this contraction, a contradiction that I saw all over Bangladesh as the pure beauty of the country collided with the fear and devastation of climate change.

“Sadarghat Port” is also available as a signed limited edition print, please see the “Bangladesh and Climate Change” series on the limited edition print section of the website..
