“Equal” is my second painting of Michael. Michael is homeless and lives on the streets of Shoreditch in London. Michael has been on the streets a number of years. He has had to deal with all the issues that being homeless throws at him. He has to deal with cold, hunger and loneliness as well as fear. He also has to cope with mental trauma that hammers his head every second of the day as well as the poison of racism. He remains hopeful, full of life and determined. It is this determination that I wanted to show in my painting of Michael.
