I remember seeing a famous front cover of a Time Magazine. It was showing a photo of Saddam Hussein after he had just been captured by the US Military with the headline “We Got Him”.
Since that day the bombings and sanctions continued with an estimated 500,000 children dying. I wanted to show the children of Iraq as the real victims of the war so I painted an Iraqi boy and kept the headline “We Got Him!” As with all wars it is the woman and children who suffer the most whilst the powers that be focus on money, oil and power.

“A Child Of Iraq” was mentioned by important publication The Art Newspaper in 2023 whilst it was on display at The Amnesty International Organised Exhibition “A Canvas of Courage” in London.
