“Monkeys, Elephants and Clowns” delves into the poignant world of a young boy born into poverty – surrounded by hardship and shadows of mental health struggles. The boy’s constant fear that something terrible is about to happen is palpable, but within his suffering, he finds refuge in his vivid imagination. In his mind, a whimsical scene unfolds: an elephant and monkey riding a scooter past boarded up shops in his neighbourhood, moments of escape from his dark reality.
Yet, this fleeting sense of freedom is overshadowed by a haunting image: a dark and frightening clown peering through a window – an embodiment of his deepest fears. No matter how far he travels or how much he tries to escape, this fear accompanies him, lingering in every corner of his world.
“Monkeys, Elephants and Clowns” is deeply personal and emotionally charged. It reflects the resilience of hope – the child’s indomitable imagination – which cannot be taken away and serves as a beacon of light amid darkness. Through this painting, I aim to express that even in the bleakest circumstances, hope and imagination provide a vital refuge and strength.

All prints are framed and mounted. A mount creates a window around the print. The mount is an acid free cardboard with a cut bevelled edge nearest the print. The print and mount is framed in a black wooden frame. The print is ready to hang.
