“Monsters” is a visceral confrontation with the forces that corrupt and destroy humanity. This oil painting tells a haunting story – an imaginary book – that reveals the sinister origins of monsters like Netanyahu and Hitler, and how, in creating them, we risk unleashing chaos upon the world.

The two faces are stitched together like Frankenstein’s creation, depicted in painstaking realism – one side, a decaying black and white portrait of Hitler, frozen in the grip of hatred; the other, the vibrant, living face of Netanyahu, infused with colour as hostility takes root. The stitches bind them, a stark symbol of how fear, hate and violence are hoisted together, waking one monster after another.

Despite censorship and suppression, I refuse to silence this truth. My art is a weapon – a cry to awaken conscience, to confront the monsters we have forged and the tyranny perpetuated by those who wield power. Every brush stroke is unwavering in its demand : this cycle of terror must end.

The story is ours to write. It is time to defeat the monsters.

I got to know James as an artist at a very special moment in my life. My daughter (Milou) had just recovered from a serious medical condition. For us, this was reason enough to have this captured in a portrait of her (and her dog). James managed to beautifully capture this very emotionally charged period for us in a timeless work of art. In order to do so, he visited us in the Netherlands. He first wanted to see and get to know Milou so he could portray her properly. We were extremely pleased with the final result. For us, it symbolizes a new beginning in a certain sense.
