Description

“Syrian Shadows” is an original oil painting. I painted “Syrian Shadows” in a photorealism style and I wanted the painting to be a documentary on the consequences of the devastating war in Syria.

The refugee crisis in Syria has exploded since the outbreak of the war and the subject of the painting is an old lady who had lived her whole life in Syria but now lives in a tent in a refugee camp in Turkey. She is devastated by the crisis that she has been pushed into and bewildered and shocked. I wanted to show this shock in the painting as the shadows of soldiers loomed near by.

I got to know James as an artist at a very special moment in my life. My daughter (Milou) had just recovered from a serious medical condition. For us, this was reason enough to have this captured in a portrait of her (and her dog). James managed to beautifully capture this very emotionally charged period for us in a timeless work of art.
