My visit to the most remote and isolated regions of Bangladesh in 2022 left me with many memories. I saw the beauty of the country and the kindness and resilience of the people as they had to endure floods and cyclones as the consequences of climate change hit so hard. I will never forget seeing this cow alone on the shore of the island Porar Char, it is one of those moments that you tend never to forget and you do not know why. There was beauty in the scene and yet this vast river could rise and destroy the village at any moment which would then see the villagers gather all their belongings together with their animals and have to desperately search for another island to live on. This process was never ending.
I wanted to create a painting in a realism style that would capture all the emotion that I felt and continue to feel as I visit this memory knowing this is the reality of all those who live on these tiny islands.
