James Earley’s true depth emerged in 2015 when he delved into emotionally charged studies of homelessness, victims of war and religious martyrs. These works are born from a profound empathy and unwavering commitment to telling stories that matter. This work elevated him to new heights of recognition, earning nominations from Institutions like the BP Award, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and The Royal Institute of Portrait Painters.His artwork found a home in the renowned Mall Gallery in London, anchoring his reputation as a compelling storyteller and disrupter through art.
In 2019, James Earley’s artistry was celebrated on even grander stages when he was chosen to showcase at the prestigious London Biennale. The international praise that he received has been remarkable – highlighted by favourable reviews from the German Kunst Haute Magazine and The International Contemporary Art Curators, calling him one of the most significant artists of our time.
Despite being self taught, James has emerged as a leading pioneering figurative and hyperrealism painter in Britain – a feat driven by raw talent, passion and a deep-seated love for storytelling through art. His journey is a testament to the transformative power of authenticity and relentless pursuit of excellence.
His accolades include the first prize at The London Biennale, The Giottto International Prize, and the Leonardo da Vinci International prize in 2019. In 2020, he was honoured with the Venice International Art Prize, and in 2022, he was handpicked by the European Cultural Centre to exhibit at The Venice Biennale. That same year, his work graced the halls at the Louvre in Paris and the historic Bonhams Auction House in London. Artist Statement
My art is a visceral response – brutally honest and provocative – shouting and screaming to make the invisible visible. I refuse to create work solely for commercial or superficial appeal. When I paint, my heart is in each brushstroke, my subjects become part of me, their struggles and resilience reflected on the canvas. here paintings are battlegrounds of emotions, embodying my fight against the sanitised narratives often favoured in the art world.
Despite facing censorship and the suppression of some of my work, my resolve remains unshaken. I believe art should challenge, disturb, and demand attention – never conform or dilute its truth for profit or convenience. Meeting genuine, resilient people who live on the streets has only deepened my conviction : If my art can raise awareness of these urgent issues, I am fulfilling a purpose beyond decoration. For me, this is more than art – it is a crusade to bring authenticity, compassion, and truth into a space that desperately needs it.
